Who we are

An Initial Commission was set-up in November 2019 to start on high priority projects and begin setting up the new organisation. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission Act 2020 was passed in June 2020, and we began to fulfil our new legislative functions in February 2021.

Focus on youth wellbeing more urgent than ever

NewsAverage youth mental wellbeing scores dropped between 2018 and 2021, continuing a longer-term decline, and in 2022/23, one in five 15 to 24-year-olds experienced psychological distress. This is higher than other age groups, and it has risen over time.
