Mairangatia te wheako ora ki te hauora hinengaro me ngā waranga Advancing lived experience mental health and wellbeing

When we initially started our work, we had been gifted a framework for measuring wellbeing by the Initial Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission. The He Ara Oranga Wellbeing Outcomes framework was developed with lived experience communities and focusses on describing what wellbeing looks like from a te ao Māori perspective and from a shared perspective.

Our other key framework, He Ara Āwhina, enables us to monitor the mental health and addiction system, and is written from the perspective of tāngata whaiora and whānau - amplifying the most important voices. The feedback that we heard from tāngata whaiora and lived experience communities has shaped this framework and enables us to monitor what is most important to people who experience distress, substance harm or gambling harm.

Our reports monitoring wellbeing for people in Aotearoa are accessible here

The experiences of people with lived experience are included across the full range of reports we have released.

In our series of insights reports on the impact of Covid-19 on communities’ wellbeing, this paper discusses how the pandemic impacted the wellbeing of people with lived experience of mental distress. See our COVID-19 insights series

Our reports monitoring the mental health and addiction system are available here

Reports in Te Huringa Tuarua insights report feature voices of lived experience. See Te Huringa Tuarua: Mental Health and Addiction Service Monitoring

We have also prepared an insights on the Peer support workforce paper (June 2023)

Beyond the reports that we publish, we also advocate for improvement via submissions and other advocacy.
